The Short Story of My Life: Story of Hanifa Abubakar
One day, on my way back from Islamic school, my school proprietor by name Abdulmalik Tanko, of Noble Kids Nursery and Primary School in Kwana lured me into a tricycle with two other men. They abducted me and requested for a ransom from my parents. The 1st batch of money was paid and the second was to be sent to them.
Mr. Abdulmalik had taken me to hide me with his wife but she rejected me. He again proceeded to take me to Tudunwada a place where he operated a private school. I knew who he was and he realised that I would expose him in the future. He bought rat poison worth NGN100, mixed it in tea and gave me to drink. I struggled in terrible stomach pain and there I gave up to mother earth. Neither was my Dad nor Mum there to protect me from the vicious hands of this murderer.
Abdulmalik watched me struggle to death, butchered my body in peices, stocked me into a sack bag and buried me in a shallow grave within his school premises.
He then proceeded to collect the second tranche of the ransom from my parents and just then, my abductors were caught. Of course Abdulmalik confessed to sniffing life out of me, of course my parents cried their eyes out, of course Nigerians have been furious about my death but what should have been done differently? Will Abdulmalik and his cohorts indeed pay darely for my young unfulfilled life?I am Hanifah a 5 year old and in your memories, I'll always remain that helpless-unprotected Nigerian Girl Child.
